TRAVEL // Capilano Suspension Bridge

Thursday, 18 December 2014

Hello there!
I finished exams last Thursday, flew back on Monday and of course that meant that I had to do some exploring of Van before I left for Christmas. I ended up popping up to Capilano Suspension Bridge with some friends to go see their Christmas lights which are just beautiful! It may have been below freezing but with a ski jacket, beanie and mittens it's all okay.

The suspension bridge (which is pretty darn long) is surrounded by plenty of trees all covered head-to-toe in fairy lights alongside the bridge. It isn't usually open during the night, other than during this Christmas period, and so you completely forget that you are walking on a bridge so high in the air. They have the largest living Christmas tree in the world at 152 feet high (I know right - what must their electricity bill come to each day?!) which is just astounding. Come on, how did that tree get that big?!

I haven't seen Capilano during the day but I sure can say that it is beautiful at night. Even better - if you are a BC resident and you pay for one visit, you get a year's pass for free! I'm definitely coming back in the summer just to see how far up that bridge is! We ended the evening looking at the shop and buying some fudge (which is amazing - especially the cookies and cream!) before heading home. Overall, it was a really lovely evening and really worth doing if you are in the area. The lights are just too pretty (and way more abundant than anything Christmassy Downtown).

Of course, we couldn't help but get a photo with Santa Bear. Look at that face - how can you say no!?

Have you been to Capilano Suspension Bridge before? What did you think? Let me know!

  1. So many pretty lights! I'm sure I am a magpie - shiny things (lights in this case) and I am sold.

Looks like you had a great time!
