LIFESTYLE // Hello 2016

Tuesday, 26 January 2016

Hello there!
I'm not sure I have actually welcomed 2016 on here yet so...here it is! I guess it's better late than never. It was very strange being in Australia over Christmas where I had absolutely no track of time. All of a sudden my phone started with '2016' and it felt completely insignificant. Now that all of my work from last semester is due in I feel like the new year is finally starting and it felt like now was the right time to write this post. It's better late than never right?

So, 2015 was full of some pretty amazing things. I met some amazing people, got through the hardest academic year of my life, went to Hawaii, went on a trek across America, went to Corfu, started my Masters, applied for PhD places and of course, spent some time in Australia too. Considering how much travelling I did last year, I know the upcoming years aren't going to compare. When else am I going to see so many amazing places in such a short period of time? Chances are, I won't - but that's okay because otherwise it would probably get boring and the fact it happened in the first time just wouldn't be special anymore.

Anyway, so in this whole 'new year, new me' thing that is plastered over the shops and my email inbox has made me think that I do need a few goals for the year. I won't say resolution, I don't particularly like that word, but I sure can make some goals. Are they realistic? Well, I hope so. Will I keep them? I hope for that too. Will it happen? Who knows, but we'll see in 12 months time!

1. Make more healthy choices
I am really unhappy with how I've been eating the past few months. My diet has been carb heavy and exercise has been at the back of my mind and that's not okay. I'm not going to go crazy with it, but by gradually introducing more exercise, less carbs and more water into my lifestyle I'm hoping it will make a bit of a difference. There's only 6 months till graduation and I want to look good!

2. Seriously, and I mean seriously, figure out what I'm going to do past Graduation.
Even after a month seeing beautiful beaches, it would be fair to say I'm more confused than ever. After every decision it feels like another 30 more appear to try and confuse me more. Sure, I'm about 3 steps forward from where I was 3 months ago but to say I know what I want right now would be a massive overstatement.

3. Get my brows done.
Okay, I have officially done this now and it may have been the best decision I have made this year. It was a complete impulse thing but I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make. It was painful and I got a headache for about 2 days after having them done but it was so, so worth it.

4. Blog more consistently.
I was doing so well and it all fell apart. This is pretty self explanatory, and will forever be a goal for me. Sorry not sorry.
5. Take more photos with friends.
Whilst my insta is full of what I'm doing and where I'm going, I don't take many photos with the people I'm with. I had so many photos from my year abroad and I have none with my friends here in the UK. I was looking at doing a scrapbook and just had no photos to print and that is not okay.

6. Experiment with hair and make-up more/keep to my skincare routine
I have received a lot of high end skincare for Christmas this year and I will use it! It makes a serious difference to how my skin looks and feels when I keep up with it and I need to stop giving it up. Sure, it may take 10 minutes in the evening but it makes such a difference in the long term.

7. Take a positive outlook.
I am known to be very pessimistic at times. There is a difference between realism and complete pessimism and I really want to keep it to a minimum. Positive thinking can make such a difference and, as it has made such a difference in the past, why wouldn't it make a difference now.

8. Improve my organization.
This has been a thing I have been working on for a long time. I'm getting better at it for sure but there is always a way to improve. Maybe I should start with my room...

9. Get back into comedy.
I have been out of the game for so long and seriously want to get back into it. I have a few sets ready to play around and have a gig in Norwich next week so if you're in the area, let me know and I'll give you some deets!
10. Really enjoy my final year of university.
This could be my last year of uni, and will definitely be the last year with my current friends. I really want to make the most of seeing everyone as much as possible. This will be the last year that we're all so close together and that needs to be taken advantage of!

So those are my New Year goals. We'll see if I keep to them, but for my sake, I sure hope I do.

Have you got any (argh) resolutions or goals for 2016? Why not let me know!

  1. Those are all great goals. I'm with you on the healthier diet thing. Yesterday I went to the gym for the first time since October and GOOD GOD do I hurt today! It's been 5 years since I graduated and I'm still not entirely sure what I'm doing so don't worry too much - it'll all come naturally to you at some point, I promise.

    1. I know exactly how you feel! I'm doing 3 classes a week in hopes that I'll stay motivated. The morning after is always a killer though! It's so hard to figure out what you want to do. I wish there was some sort of generator I could use or something!

  2. Sounds like some great goals. I wish I was in Norwich, it would be really cool to see one of your sets.

I've been stressing about 'what to do when I grow up' for the past couple of years, and even when I started back at university I didn't really feel like I knew what I wanted to do when I finished. But I feel like since the start of the year, I have some kind of plan about what I want to do.

    1. Norwich is a fine city ;)
That's great! Even some plan would be more than I have right now. I'm so stuck between the whole 'I can do what's easy or I can do what I want' but even the easy thing scares me. It's like being stuck between a rock and a hard place!

  4. Hopefully you'll be able to tick a bunch of these off by the end of the year!

To be honest, I don't really have any resolutions as such, apart from just trying to enjoy myself more this year, and take more chances. I suppose the surprise one is me actually eating healthy and exercising? I've only been doing it just short of three weeks but I feel SO good, both mentally and physically.

    1. I sure hope so! That's great to hear! I've been exercising for 1 and a half now and I hope it's making a difference. I feel like I'm not wasting my time so much, so I guess that's something!
