TRAVEL // Ohau, Hawaii

Saturday, 28 February 2015

Hello there!
If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you'd know that last week I went to Hawaii. I have never had a 'Reading Week' before and took full advantage of the fact by booking a trip with a few friends. Originally when I found out I had a reading week I was thinking about booking a trip a little closer to home - maybe LA or San Fran. Instead we impulse booked a trip to Hawaii. I had so much prep to do before I left, four mid-terms to revise for (which are now thankfully over! Just one more take-home mid term left, a 3,000 word paper, two lab reports and a couple of lab preps this week!)

Anyway, I thought I'd share a few photos I took during my week away. We were staying in a house just 2 minutes (if that) from the beach which was empty about 90% of the time. Having an entire beach to yourself is the dream right? It was beautiful and wonderfully relaxing and fantastic I wish I could be back on the beach right now.

The first day we just relaxed on the beach. The sand was cool and the water was (kind of) warm. The next day we headed to the Dole Plantation where they grow pineapples. I can now say I like pineapple and got lost in the world's biggest (pineapple) maze. The pineapple ice cream has literally changed my life - well that and shave ice. FYI, a pineapple is ripe if all the eyes are the same side and always wash it after you have cut it open - it does wonders!

In the evening we met up with Liv's cousin who took us to get the best shave ice on the island before heading back to his to watch the sunset on the beach. It couldn't have been a better day. He has a house on the beach which just happens to be where they filmed Lost. Looking at it, I cannot believe it after endless series and they didn't even get off the island. Come on, they were about a 10 minute walk from the Highway!

Later in the week we headed over to North Shore and ended up paddle boarding down the river. I did stand up - honest! It was such a laugh watching Will and Stu trying to jump onto each other's boards and I legitimately managed to do some yoga without falling off. That was a very proud moment.

Overall, it was the most amazing week. Ohau is ridiculously beautiful and laid back and I want to go back as soon as possible. It's crazy to think that I casually just booked a trip to Hawaii. People my age are going to Amsterdam and Maga! Sure, it wasn't the cheapest trip in the world but still completely do-able on a student budget and 100% worth it.

Have you been to Hawaii? What are your top tips for visiting the Islands? Let me know!

    1. I don't know how you haven't gone back already. I was gone for 3 days and started looking up flights again (although that may have been mid-term procrastination)

    1. I didn't think I'd be able to afford it in a hurry. Hawaii is one of those places you go once you have a good job right?
