STUDY // Pre-Semester 2 thoughts

Wednesday, 7 January 2015

Hey there!
For those of us at university, semester 2 has just begun. I'm sure we all feel like it means you get a fresh new start and can take control of your own learning. The Winter break is soon to be a long lost memory but that's okay because you just really miss learning right?

So, to celebrate, I thought I'd compile a list of thoughts that may accompany the start of Semester 2.

1. Once classes start I'll have no time for Netflix so I'd best do 12-16 weeks worth of binge watching in 48 hours right?

2. I'm going to be super positive this year. I'm not going to let my work get the better of me. I will sit down and just do it. No procrastination.

3. Oh dear, my timetable is horrific this semester. 8 am - 6 pm? What kind of hell is that?!

4. Surely my lecturers and peers will like me more if I dress well and actually apply make up.

5. My text book for this course is how much?! I sure as hell wish I hadn't bought that $80 eye palette now.

6. I'm going to wake up at 6am every day and go to the gym before lectures.

7. Oh wait, if I do that I won't have time to apply eyeshadow from that $80 palette I just bought and if I can't afford the text book I might as well look good.

8. I will spend lots of money on new stationary to make my notes look amazing and get me interested in actually making these notes.

9. I just spent $60 on stationary and still cannot afford that text book.

10. Dad?

Note: this piece of work is entirely fictional and the $80 eye palette was a gift. However, student finance will not reach my bank account for another week or so and I really cannot afford that text book.

    1. I have never had to buy textbooks before and I almost cried in the middle of the bookstore today over the total being about $600 (for 2 books and an iClicker!) It's ridiculous!

    1. And I have two mid-terms following so two times this semester it'll be 8am-9pm. When I found out I almost cried. Surely that's not allowed?! haha

  5. Ooooh, I had 8am-4pm in my fourth semester! The kicker was that my 8am start was a tutorial; therefore, a choice that I had made. Logic? None. Thanks first week self, you made that last semester hell on earth haha. Hopefully I can make up for it when I finally start my next semester at the new university ;)

  6. Fortunately for me as an English student, most of my reading is novels which aren't that pricey. I'm starting my last semester of uni ever next week.... It doesn't feel real

    1. Ah, I have a friend who's an English student and all her rentals were $3 each whereas mine were $110 per book! I have a year and a half till I finish and get my masters. I couldn't even imagine having only one semester yet. Good luck!

  7. 8 - 6? Ugh that sucks. One year my schedule was 1 - 10, I regretted that very very very much. Best wishes & learn a lot.

    1. 10pm?! That's horrible! I have a few 9pm finishes every once in a while but 10pm is something else entirely!

  8. Aw man, I'm glad to be finished school for the time being. Just sold several text books back actually, a whopping $36, ha! Seems I still can't afford the expensive eye palette! Best of luck with this semester's classes!

    1. Wow! That's a lot of money! Thankfully the eye palette was a gift but I think I'm going to buy another (like that's a good use of my money!)

  9. I'm so relieved our lecturers photocopy the readings for us...I couldn't deal with having to fork out a ton of money for books, I really couldn't.

    1. I wish they did that for me! One of my lecturers did last semester but it was only bits and pieces. They are so up on copyright here that it's easier just to buy the book. I'm going to have to buy another $150 book soon and it's not even available on rental! I'll do that a bit later I think!
