BEAUTY // My first MAC lipstick - Russian Red

Friday 8 August 2014

Hello my lovelies!

Yes, you see correctly. I got my very first MAC lipstick. It may have taken me until the ripe old age of twenty (TWENTY?!) to finally pick one up but I have now! I took full advantage of £5 off at debenhams.co.uk in celebration of National Lipstick Day and I am very, very happy I did so!  I spent hours trawling though the Debenhams website and Google for reviews and I finally came to a decision - Russian Red!

Russian Red is a dark, cool toned red with a matte finish. It isn't as dark as I expected but still is a gorgeous colour! It is matte, but not so matte that it is overly drying. Sure, I put plenty of lip balm on after wearing it but I really don't like chapped lips.

I don't think this picture really does it justice but it is a lovely colour! If I had one issue with it I think it would be that it takes a little while to set. I apply it and then dab away the excess with some tissue - leave it 5 minutes before I do anything much - and then the lipstick is good to go and then will outlast pretty much anything. I ate a burger from TGI's with it on! I had no lipstick on my straw and didn't appear to be eating it either. Result! It doesn't have absolutely no colour transfer (like I have seen Ruby Woo do) but it is very minimal and this colour suits me much more! (oh, and it clings to try skin - just exfoliate lips first if you can but all lipsticks are like that for me so it's no issue really!)

Overall I am happy I finally got a MAC lipstick! I'm not sure I'd buy any at £15.50 (I can just use a cheap lipstick and some Lipcote if I want staying power) but if I feel like treating myself I will definitely pick up another MAC lipstick. They look so luxe and I am not embarrassed at all to have it in my make-up bag. I may pick up a few in Canada considering they convert to just £11-ish with the exchange rate (it's not like I have rent to pay or anything...)

Oh, and here's a selfie from before I went out. Filters change everything but it's a gorgeous colour (and the mascara is Too Faced's Better Than Sex - it's so good!).

So that's my review of my first MAC lipstick. I sure hope this isn't the last!
Have you got Russian Red or have any recommendations for me? Let me know!

    1. They are so expensive (to me anyway) that I didn't want to buy a colour that may not suit me. You are right - it is perfect for nights out and doesn't need retouching at all!

  7. Such a gorgeous shade, looks beautiful on you. I like MAC lipsticks quite a lot, especially the ones with a matte finish. Treating yourself once in a while to a nice lipstick should definitely be allowed! ;)

    1. It is surprisingly wearable! I was worried about it too but it isn't as bright as it looks and is really quite a flattering colour.

  14. That's such a beautiful colour on you. I haven't got any Mac makeup but I'd love to get one some day. Im still relatively new to lipstick so don't want to spend a huge amount on it yet.

    1. Thanks lovely! It has taken me 2 years of wearing lipsticks a lot and £5 off to venture into spending that much on a lipstick. It is good though - I'll definitely get some wear out of it.
