LIFESTYLE // Orientation Day

Wednesday 3 September 2014

Hey guys!

Question: when does this become a lifestyle post and not a travel post? I think this is a lifestyle post....

Anyway, yesterday was orientation day at UBC!

Oh, and before I start: I HAVE REACHED 200 FOLLOWERS!
Thank you so much to each and every one of you who follow me. It means so much and cannot believe I have reached this many followers. It may not be much compared to some but for me this is such a big deal so thank you, thank you, thank you! It was the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning and definitely put me in a fabby (or tabby according to my mac) mood.

Jacket - Barbour (sale)
Jeans - River Island (sale)
Converse - Very (old)
Umbrella - Radley

We have had such beautiful sunshine the past couple of days so, of course, it had to pour down with rain all day! It started at about 8am and it was still going strong at 7pm last night. At least I finally got to wear my Barbour jacket and not feel like an idiot! I just paired a pair of blue jeans and a breton top with a bright pink lip. I thought I'd be walking around campus all day and knew it was raining so a want to be warm overcame my inner fashionista. Once lectures start I'll be all fashion - I'll only have to walk to chemistry and back!

Anyway, it was a brilliant day. Sure, I didn't have as much a fun orientation that the first years have (damn them!) but I met some super lovely people. They kept all the exchange students together and half of my group were from the UK so there was plenty to talk about. There are so many English exchange students here. I really didn't expect there to be so many!

First off we met up with our Orientation leader (who did her year abroad at UEA - what are the odds?!) and had a tour around campus. FYI - campus is massive! Fortunately the buildings my lectures are in are next door but it's one hell of a walk from my dorm. We had two introductory lectures (such fun) followed by a free Subway lunch which completely made up for it. I then found out one of the guys in my group goes to uni with a guy I used to go to primary school with - WHAT IS HAPPENING?! Two things in one day? Really?

After another couple of lectures on healthcare (even more fun but very informative and helpful!) I headed over to see what societies they have on campus. It was pouring down with rain and super freezing but I got a free cheese toastie and hot dog so that makes up for it a bit. I've got a meeting with the radio station, an audition with the acapella society and a free ballroom class with the dance society coming up (and I think a yoga class too?) so there is plenty to do. I just need my Lilly Pulitzer diary to write all of this in!

So, all in all, it was a pretty good day! I met loads of lovely people but cannot believe I missed the pep rally. I didn't know when or where it was and I am devastated. I will NOT miss homecoming. I have to go!

Are you looking forward to orientation at your first day of uni? Do you remember that day fondly? Let me know!

  5. This is so exciting! I can't wait to hear more about your time in Vancouver. Is it a lot different to the UK so far? Also love the free food part! Jealous :P

    1. It is crazy different! But kind of not different at the same time.
I think the main thing I have noticed is everyone is a lot friendlier - customer service is crazy (like too good!)

Oh, and they don't have pennies anymore.
