TRAVEL // A weekend in Nottingham

Tuesday 1 December 2015

Hello!
How are we all doing? Somehow between research, writing a 20 page introduction, coursework and trying to be funny 18 hours a day, I managed to find the time to take a trip to Nottingham. I went to go see my dear friend Sam (you know it) and see the one, and might I add only, Mumford and Sons. Yes, they were fantastic as always (as you can see here on my Insta!). Anyway, not only did I get to see Mumford, I had a little wander around Nottingham too. It was raining and seriously windy so an OOTD post was pretty much impossible but you have got to admit that Nottingham is pretty darn cute.

So, first things first, we headed to town on Saturday. In my new Topshop boots I felt like I could conquer the world. I would have, but they ended up breaking the next day (very sad but true story - they'll have to go back!) Nottingham have such a cute Christmas market in the centre of town right now with lots and lots of yummy food. I also desperately wanted to go ice skating but apparently a girl can't persuade everyone that it would be a good idea. It's okay, I was really not in the correct attire anyway.

In the evening it was time for Mumford and Sons! It's quite strange being at the front of a crowd in a big arena. It's like you're in a small gig but you look back and think 'oh, there are so many people!'. They put on a fantastic show full of new and old which I loved. If you ever get the chance to see them I honestly would urge you to go. It was my 3rd time and I'd love to see them again! Jack Garrett supported and he is also so good - he's made it right onto my Spotify playlist!

On the Sunday I grabbed my suitcase and went back into town. We went in search for the Robin Hood statue (as seen above) and may have admired his thighs. Sam booked us a table at Annie's, a little American diner, which is apparently constantly booked out. They have such a strange mix of topping combinations, I just couldn't choose which one to have! I ended up with The Vermonter which was topped with maple syrup, pancakes and bacon. If there are pancakes involved that counts as brunch right? Either way, it was seriously tasty and I'm incredibly jealous that we don't have anything like that in Norwich #sorrynotsorry

Was I sad to leave Nottingham? Yes I was, but probably because I got home and went straight to the library. You can take the girl away from Chemistry but it will always be calling - that's for sure.

Have you been to Nottingham? Where are your favourite places to go? Let me know!

  3. Sounds like you had a really great time in Nottingham! And of course, at Mumford and Sons. I went ice skating a couple of years ago and I am forever shocked that I didn't fall over ONCE, considering it was my first time! Hahah.

    1. I love ice skating! I used to go to a portable rink when I was younger and then went quite a bit last year (being in Canada and all - I'm not sure you're allowed to be in the country if you can't at least stand on the ice haha!) I really want to take classes so I can do some fancy things but they're so expensive!

  4. Yeh Annie's is very popular at the moment but there's also been an Ed's Diner opened up in Victoria Centre too.

I don't know if our Christmas market is good but because I see it every year maybe I don't appreciate it as much as someone who doesn't live here

My favourite places to go to in Nottingham are Wollaton hall, Kitty Cafe, Cookie Shake

    1. It is good food! I've been to Ed's Diner before and I'm just never very impressed. I'm really loving going to independent restaurants at the moment because they know they have to be good to get people in. If it helps, Norwich doesn't have a Christmas market so anything is better than that! I have heard about the Kitty Cafe but my friend is allergic so I wasn't allowed to go - I was devastated!

  9. When I think Nottingham, I think 'Steal from the rich, give to the poor' Robin Hood! I'm so happy he has amazing thighs, hahaha! I'd love to go to Nottingham one day, my dad said it's beautiful and your photographs do say so! <3

    1. Ah, you're missing all of the lights! The Christmassy feeling is quite subdued this year - but that may just be because I'm older and just immune to it now...that's upsetting!
