TRAVEL // Corfu Travel Diary Pt. 1

Wednesday 9 September 2015

Hello!
As you may have noticed on Instagram, I have just come back from a trip to Corfu with my parents. I had never visited Greece or any Greek islands and it seemed like the right time to go. We hopped on a plane and made our way to the tiny island filled with cats, expensive diet coke and Greek food a plenty.

We arrived at about midday on our first day and decided to use that day to relax and have a little wander around our hotel and surrounding areas. We stayed at the Ariti Grand Hotel, who had the most lovely staff, and beautiful views of Kanoni. Of course, wine was flowing due to the whole 35 degree thing. Our hotel was just 10-15 minutes from Corfu Town on the bus and a 5 minute walk from a beach. Can you talk about convenient?

There are plenty of places to eat and grab a drink within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. Our favourite was Cafe Royal, who were a part of a boutique hotel. It had beautiful wooden furniture, good music and an amazing view of the runway at the airport. My dad could not keep his phone in his pocket or his eyes away from the sky (if it helps - he is a pilot with a plane who is a little plane mad!)

The next day, feeling a lot better rested, we hopped onto the bus in search of Corfu Town. It was a lot busier than I expected and full of little shops selling cotton clothing, leather goods and not-so-tacky souvenirs. Oh, did I mention they had two Sephora stores? I know, heaven.

Whilst there isn't any beach in the town, there is plenty of sea. As you walk along the sea wall there are plenty of locals who are floating in the deep blue water or laying on sun loungers in the nearby restaurants. Overtime I saw one I was instantly thirsty and was in need of some hydration (aka I wanted to sit in a beautiful bar).

The views from the Cafe Kanoni and Ma Cocotte were also absolutely incredible. You can walk down some stairs down to the beach and a small monastery filled with flowers, bottle green doors and, of course, cats. Not only that, but you can take a boat for around 3 Euros to Mouse Island which is just off the shore. I didn't do this, apparently it only has a small cafe and another Monastery, but you have got to admit it's pretty.

So that was my first couple of days in Corfu, filled of exploring and petting stray cats.
Have you been to Corfu? What were your favourite things to do? Let me know!

    1. It really was! I'd love to go to Kefalonia. That was where we intended on going but Corfu was significantly cheaper so it happened!

    1. Thank you! If it helps, I bought nothing. They only really had brands we had in the UK. I was quite disappointed!
