TRAVEL // Niagara Falls

Monday 25 May 2015

Hello there!
Just 2 days into my trip I found myself on a coach to one of the most beautiful places I have seen in my life - Niagara Falls. It was the reason I flew all the way over to Toronto and it is such a beautiful area. The falls are just breathtaking and I could stare a them for hours (although I did not have this opportunity unfortunately due to a very badly organized tour). However, if you ever get the chance to go to New York or Toronto, please go see Niagara Falls. You will not regret it!

As you can (hopefully) see in these photos, it is just astounding how large the waterfalls are and just crazy how much water is tipping over the edge every minute. We were dropped off along the top of the falls for a small walk about before going on the Hornblower cruise actually on the River. It may be a little pricey but I cannot recommend going on a boat trip enough. They give you ponchos which look like they are not necessary but they are and if you don't wear it I am pretty sure there is a 100% chance you will get wet.

We may have spent 4 hours reaching the Falls (Due to the incredibly greedy City Sightseeing Niagara company who ran the tour even though there were planned road works occurring on the day I was visiting the falls.  I would strongly recommend booking your trip with a different company. They should have known that the only road out of Toronto and towards Niagara Falls was closed but they ran the tour anyway. I'm sorry, but that is not okay with me) but at least the sights were spectacular. The day we arrived was actually the first day that they had allowed the boats onto the lake due to it completely frozen over the winter. As you can see, there were still massive icebergs in the falls - and this was in May! As you can see, you get absolutely soaked! I think a waterproof disposable camera/GoPro is a must when it comes to my next visit.

After the boat tour we stopped off at Niagara on the Lake for 5 minutes to take some photos as well. We were also meant to have a wander around a local town but this was not possible due to the incredibly delayed arrival at the Falls. Fortunately, it is so beautiful that I would love to visit again and hopefully get a little more time to look around.

Have you been to Niagara Falls or want to go? Let me know!

  1. Oh man, I would love to go there!
My grandad stood somewhere near the top of it I think, back when he was doing work in the war I believe? There's a picture we have of him just casually standing at the top (I think it's Niagara!) It's a shame the company weren't as fab, but at least you got to see the falls! :)

    1. Oh wow - surely that's a reason to book a trip and go! And yes - exactly! I still got to see the falls! It's so beautiful there. You really must go!

  2. Your photos look amazing. Niagara Falls is on my bucket list. I've heard how amazing it is. If I manage to move out to Vancouver this summer I defiantly want to go over to Toronto for the weekend and do the falls.

    1. Thanks so much! You might want to go to New York instead and do it from New York (unless you do want to do Toronto particularly - it's really quite lovely there). It's definitely worth doing though. I want to go back!

    2. I take it New York is the better side to see it from then??

    3. I'm honestly not sure and I'd do some research first! It'll be cheaper to travel and stay in Toronto but all my sister did whilst we were there was say that she wished we'd done NYC rather than Toronto (I quite liked it but hey - everyone has their opinions!). I guess it just depends on whether you want to do Toronto or NYC. It's a lot easier to get to from Toronto though and staying in Niagara is super duper cheap!

  3. I'm so confused right now, because I could swear I commented on this but it looks like I messed up as usual lol!
Absolutely stunning photos! I'd adore to get to see it in person one day, 'cause I think the sheer scale of them can only be appreciated in person.
Little bit of a shame that your tour wasn't the best but I'm sure you can do it again and it'll be way better as you have the experience already.

    1. No worries! It is just crazy - I wouldn't want to paddle in that water! It was a shame but I just wanted to warn about the company. So many other tour companies cancelled the tour for that day whilst ours did not. It's just greedy!

    1. Ah, you'll have the best time! If you don't want to get wet you can go on the outside for the first 10 minutes or so but as soon as you get close to the falls, sneak inside. You'll still see but it won't be anywhere near as fun!
