LIFESTYLE // RADIO 1'S BIG WEEKEND: NORWICH

Friday 29 May 2015

Hey y'all!
Last weekend I was ever so lucky to attend both days of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich. I may have been in Canada at the time but I have absolutely wonderful friends who managed to get me tickets along with theirs (how wonderful!) So, just 4 days after landing back in the UK I was already on a 2 h 30 min train journey to Norwich to see some of my favourite bands on my university campus - what could be better?!

On Day 1, the weather was just beautiful! The sun was shining, but it wasn't too hot, so I kept cool in my leather skirt (ASOS old) and a kimono (Matalan here). I'm so glad I wore my converse. Wellies were not necessary and so my feet stayed happy all day.

It was a pretty filled day. I don't think I had a break for longer than 1 hour but that is exactly how I like it. First off I saw 5 Seconds of Summer (not too bad), The Vaccines, Ben Howard, Fall Out Boy, Hozier, Florence and the Machine and finally Muse. I have never seen a full set by The Vaccines so I had to make sure I saw them. Fall Out Boy were absolutely fantastic. I hadn't seen them since I was 15 and they have still got it. They played a selection of hits and it definitely got the crowd jumping.

I didn't know what to expect from Hozier but he was amazing! His set may be my favourite from the Saturday (although that could have also been stolen by FOB. I'm unsure). It's such a shame that Florence still has a broken foot. Her acoustic set was still fantastic - I wish I could sing like her. And then there was Muse...they were fantastic and I am still finding confetti in my parka. I don't know what else to say there.

Day 2

I ended up wearing my leather skirt again. I needed something that would work with my docs because it was meant to rain a lot (and it did! For 4 hours!). I just paired it with a vintage tee, chunky cardigan and my parka because layering is your best friend when at a festival (and it's raining!)

The Sunday was a much more calm day for me. I didn't want to turn up late in case a band I liked was on early but unfortunately the first act I actually wanted to see was on at 3 and I arrived at 11:30. Yes, I know. That's not the best. I caught Lower than Atlantis and Charli XCX before waiting in the rain for Catfish and the Bottlemen (who I have been obsessed with since about September). I wish I had known their London tickets were going on sale - those Saturday tickets would be mine!

I also finally saw James Bay - another guy I have been listening to almost non-stop since about Septmeber/October. I am so happy I finally got to see him live. He is absolutely fantastic and if you get the chance to see him please do. I rushed back to George Ezra (so adorbs - although better in an intimate gig environment) and finally I saw Tay Tay. I'd have stayed for Foo Fighters but I have seen them before and absolutely hated it (I may have gotten McDonalds instead...)

So, Radio 1's Big Weekend was an absolutely amazing weekend. I got to see so many fantastic acts pretty much ON my university campus! Thanks Radio 1!

Wait...can't we have that every year?

Did you go to Radio 1's Big Weekend this year? Who did you see? Let me know!

    1. You should definitely head to a festival if you never have - it's definitely an experience! I think Big Weekend is a great first festival because it's a no camping, go home and have a shower situation. I think the likes of Reading and Glasto are a lot scarier for first time campers!

  12. It looks like you had a fantastic weekend. I caught a handful of Taylor's songs from her set on BBC Three and it looked brilliant. I'm going to see her in Manchester in a couple of weeks, and that got me really excited.
