Hello!
Recently I have been spending a lot of time (and money!) on scrapbooking. I used to do it a lot as a child and now I have all this spare time in the evenings and a lot of photos to do something with. I have already posted one post (here) on my scrapbook beginnings but thought it was time to do a little update. I'm over half way through my first book and it really looks like I should finish it. When I do, that'll be a proud moment.
Either way, here's a post demonstrating some of my more interesting spreads. I'm working with a simple £2.50 Hobbycraft 8 x 8 scrapbook - it's nothing fancy! If you want to see the sorts of materials I'm working with just check out my earlier post - pictures of everything are right there!
I'm not too keen on themes and so have just stuck with a colour scheme throughout. I didn't particularly want a Halloween page or a Christmas page etc. but more of an art journal look anyway. I;m using a mix of Heidi Swapp papers I got from TK Maxx for £3 and my Bohemian papers too with photos from Polarogram and Snapfish. I really like the whole put something everywhere look and actually writing something substantial on the page.
I love the full page cover and have done that simply with some Paperchase wrapping paper (on sale!) My photo strips are also from Polargram. Can you tell that I spent a fortune?
I picked up a piece of scrapbook paper covered in decorative tags and they are my favourite thing to put on a page. They're so pretty and add a little bit extra to a page (such as some text!)
This page is 100% my favourite of my scrapbook so far. I knew I wanted the photo to be very simply placed on the page and for there to be plenty of room for writing. I was still cracking up remembering that evening and whilst there is a lot of writing on the page (my Mum hated it and she's a keen scrapbooker) it's exactly what I wanted of the page.
The blue page definitely has a more Christmassy feel and I did try to stick to similar colours of photo and background for these pages. I quite like the contrast between the pages - from super cool to lovely and warm (and makes me want to sit by a fire).
This last spread was entirely inspired by Pinterest (see my Travel Journal board here). I love the bunting and simplicity of the second page. It took no time at all but I can imagine lots of variations of it that I can use in further books.
So that's my first scrapbook update! As you can see, I'm not the best scrapbooker. I don't have flawless typography skills or an endless budget but I do try! I'm really happy with how it's turning out and really hope I finish it!
Do you have a scrapbook? What are your favourite sorts of layouts to use? Let me know!
I've never made a scrap book myself but my best friend made me one for my 16th birthday and its gorg! I love this you have inspired me to make one now, i think i might make one for my grandmas 70th! x

This looks wonderful Rachael. I feel like I want to start a scrapbook RIGHT now. I think I might try and do one for my next holiday.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! You should! I really want to make a small one for my upcoming trip to Greece out of envelopes. You just stick envelopes together in a certain way to make a mini book. I'm sure it's on Pinterest somewhere.

I absolutely love your scrap book! I'm doing project life but it's nowhere near as amazing as this!

Thank you so much! I really wanted to do a Project Life book (goals!) but it's so pricey! I got a lot more in the way of papers and such for just the price of the binder in the end so just went for it. I have actually picked up some project life samplers from Hey Little Magpie (my fave paper shop ever!) and they work so well for normal scrapbooks too!

If I'm honest - I don't either! I just printed some photos and put them on pages. I wish I had more of an idea what I'm doing.

I absolutely love scrapbooking but haven't done one in so long! I've got so many empty scrapbooks, papers, postcards and tape that I have in a huge box that I collected after working at paperchase a few years ago! We should trade some paper delights one day :)
ReplyDeleteHello, Tigerface ♥
Ah wow - I'd not have a paycheck if I worked in Paperchase. I bet you have some beautiful goodies waiting to be used. Paperchase is life!

This is absolutely amazing! I used to keep a scrapbook as a child and my friend made me one for my birthday, which was just after we all graduated from uni, but this has really inspired me to re-start it as it's something you look back on and really appreciate :) xx

Thank you so much! It's so lovely that your friend made one - I really want to make them as gifts now too.

This is such a gorgeous scrapbook! I love the idea of scrapbooking but I just don't have the time to commit to it and to be honest, artiness is not my strength! If I was to ever attempt a scrapbook, it would have to be something like the Project life ones where you can get all the cards etc and it's pretty well set up for you :) x

Thank you so much! I almost got a PL one instead but it's so pricey! Sure, it's all ready for you but it was a big start up cost - that's for sure!

This is sooo lovely. I would love to start a scrapbook but so far haven't found the time. And I doubt the result will be as anywhere near as nice as this haha
