It has been a very hectic few weeks socially. I have had 3 (count 'em - 3!) formals! One included Erlenmeyer flasks (which are conical - come on!) The second took place on a boat (I know right) whereas the last one was just on campus but still was absolutely brilliant.
Being a student, I did not have much money to spend on lots of dresses. I just bought the one from ASOS and had it shipped to Canada but at least I think I got my fair share of wear from it! I thought I'd share some of the photos from my final formal (probably ever!) and just encourage as many of you as possible to take advantage of organized events whilst you are at university. It has really made me realize just how many friends I have made this past year and how I much I will miss them when we all go our separate ways. It may seem a little pricer than a night in a club with your close friends but I'd say it is definitely worth it!
This formal was just on campus in one (of the many) theatres. Yes, campus is pretty much a small town! I just paired this two layer midi chiffon dress from ASOS with a pair of heels (also from ASOS - yay for free international delivery!) with my Primark herringbone jacket. We headed down to the Rose Garden on campus before heading in to enjoy sparkling wine like the classy (ha!) people we are.
They really did decorate well. There were little mason jars with tea lights, fairy lights everywhere, a few photo ops in the little forest as well as in the rose garden. Overall, the whole event was really well decorated and had a fantastic atmosphere. As we entered they had placed a tree, lots of paper and some string so you could add what you loved about UBC to the tree. I obviously mentioned the mountains because....well mountains.
The night started with live music and ended on a DJ who did a seriously good playlist. At one point I was doing a tango on the edge of the dance floor. How does that even happen? It's the heels and the dress I think. Note - bring some flats in a bag. I'm super glad I did. My heels were gorgeous but painful doesn't even describe it!
I'm pretty sure everyone had a fantastic time and I am so glad I made the effort to go to a formal before I left university. It really does upset me that I'll have left Vancouver in less than a month and may not ever see these people again. We have spent an entire year together after all!
Have you ever been to a university formal? What are your top tips? Let me know!
Aw, your formal looks so much fun! The dress is gorgeous (and loving your fringe as well!). I went to a ball at the end of last term and did not take flats with me, my feet were absolutely killing me, not to mention the blisters the next day! Major mistake!
ReplyDeleteAnd I definitely agree, going to a ball/formal is so much fun! Expensive, yes, but the memories are great!

Thank you lovely! It's finally at the right length - hairdressers can just never cut a fringe right!
DeleteI can imagine your feet killed - I lasted about 2 hours and gave up!
:)
Looks like you had the best of times! Your photos are absolutely gorgeous and so special, will you print them? I'd have to, but I have a bit of a thing about printing photos haha. You look really happy and beautiful. You really make me want to travel with these posts!

Aw you look lovely! It looks like a really fun night as well! I don't think we had any formals at all when I was at uni which is a bit of a shame! We had quite a few when I was a high school though, including a debutante so I think I got my fair share then! xx

Thank you lovely! That is a shame - although I'd have love to go to a debutante ball. I was never given that opportunity. It would have been so much fun!
